Open UTM Manager → Settings to control which parameters the plugin records. The free plugin has a single General tab, which opens with an example tagged URL for reference.
UTM parameter toggles
Each of the six standard UTM parameters can be enabled or disabled individually:
| Parameter | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
utm_id | Campaign ID (e.g. from your ads platform) | Enabled |
utm_source | Traffic source — google, facebook, newsletter | Enabled |
utm_medium | Marketing medium — cpc, email, social | Enabled |
utm_campaign | Campaign name — black-friday-sale | Enabled |
utm_term | Paid search keywords | Enabled |
utm_content | Ad/link variant for A/B testing | Enabled |
Click Save Changes to apply. Keep at least one enabled — with all six off, no UTM values are recorded at all (visits are still logged).
How disabling a parameter behaves
- Disabled parameters are ignored at recording time — the value is discarded server-side even if it’s present in the URL.
- Disabling a parameter does not delete data already stored from when it was enabled; it only stops new values being recorded.
- Re-enabling starts capturing again immediately.
What doesn’t need configuring
UTM Manager is deliberately zero-config beyond the toggles:
- Tracking script — added automatically to all front-end pages; nothing to paste into your theme.
- Visitor identification — automatic via a first-party cookie + localStorage.
- Storage — custom database tables created on activation.
- IP privacy — IPs are salted-hashed automatically; no setting needed (and storage can be disabled entirely with a filter).
Developer-level settings
Some behaviors are intentionally exposed as code filters rather than UI options — consent gating, disabling IP storage, and registering custom parameters. See Developer Hooks.
Pro settings tabs
With UTM Manager Pro active, two more tabs appear on this screen:
- Pro Settings — privacy and data controls (IP storage, consent cookie, retention period, excluded roles), geolocation and device capture, webhook endpoints and signing secret, and the REST API key.
- Custom Parameters — add any query parameter beyond the standard six. See Custom Parameters.
The parameter toggles above keep working exactly the same way; Pro adds to this screen rather than replacing it.
