Introduction

UTM Manager is a WordPress plugin that captures UTM campaign parameters from your incoming traffic and turns visitors into leads with full attribution — so you always know which campaign, source, and medium brought each person to your site.

What it does

  • Captures UTM parameters automatically. When someone lands on your site through a link like https://your-site.com/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=summer-sale, UTM Manager records the campaign data — no setup on individual pages, no shortcodes, no code.
  • Builds one lead per visitor. Each visitor is identified by a random first-party ID stored in their browser. All of their visits are linked to a single lead record.
  • Keeps first-touch and last-touch attribution. The campaign that originally brought a visitor in is stored permanently (first touch), and the most recent campaign is updated on every return visit (last touch). Neither overwrites the other.
  • Records the full journey. Every page a lead views is logged, so you can see their complete path through your site — pages, timestamps, referrers, and the UTM values active at the time.
  • Reports inside wp-admin. An overview dashboard shows totals, a new-leads trend chart, and your top sources / mediums / campaigns. A filterable leads table and CSV export tool round out the toolkit.

What makes it different

Performance-first capture. Tracking runs as a small, deferred script that reports in the background (navigator.sendBeacon) after the page finishes loading. Nothing blocks page rendering, and no tracking work happens during PHP page generation.

Cache-proof. Because capture happens in the visitor’s browser rather than on the server, it keeps working behind full-page caching (WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache, Cloudflare, Varnish, host-level caches) — setups where most PHP-based trackers silently stop recording.

Private by design. Raw IP addresses are never stored — only a salted, irreversible hash, and even that can be disabled. There are no third-party cookies and no data ever leaves your server.

Free and Pro

Everything above is in the free plugin from WordPress.org. UTM Manager Pro is an add-on that installs alongside it — the free plugin stays active — and adds custom parameter tracking, a reports screen with country and device breakdowns, Contact Form 7 / WPForms / WooCommerce integrations, webhooks, a REST API, and GDPR retention controls. Pages covering it are marked (Pro).
